This was my first gig at the Piper. I know Kerry and Tim have played there in the past with other bands, but I had to admit I really didn't know what to expect. When we first got there it was like I'd walked into a pub that was substituing for Chuck E Cheese. There were kids everywhere. Running, screaming, and making a huge mess, and a whole lot of noise. After bringing in all our gear we had to wait for the staff to clear us an area to set up and play. We had lots of our friends there tonight. Jerami & Katie were there. (He was sporting his nice new cast) George and Donna were there with a bunch of their friends and Brad and Wilma were there as well. (Pssst... hey Wilma, I definitely won that round) Ha Ha Ha! Kathi & Mike & Dennika were in attendance as well, and so were the McGradie's Ladies. Sandra, Laurieanne, and Leslee. Danny's lovely wife Sue and a bunch of their friends were there as well. It was soooo good to see everyone. Scott Penfold (from 94.9 fm The Rock) also dropped in with his brother for a bit. It was nice to see Scotty P again, it's been far too long. The entire room was carpeted so that really soaked up alot of the sound, but the people there all seemed to have a great time regardless. There was a huge table of young girls that got up and danced their asses off. (See pictures) Things were going very well until I nearly got my two front teeth knocked out. Let me explain. When we do "Black Magic Woman" there is a line that goes "Don't turn your back on me baby..." at which point I usually turn my back to the crowd as a gag and sing into the microphone the other way. (facing the band) Well when I did one of my "friends" thought it would be funny to hip check me from behind. When this happened, the microphone stand teetered away from me then came back and slammed very hard into my teeth. OUCH!!! I couldn't even finish the verse. I was so pissed. It hurt so very much. I've had my teeth banged many times over the years with many microphones, but never felt anything like that. The pain lasted all the way into the next day. I discovered why when I looked in the mirror when I got home at 4:00am. My two front teeth had been chipped, and my front left one had been cracked. Can you say MAD!? The owner of the piper and his manager loved us and booked us for two more shows right away. So I guess we'll see ya at the Piper soon. Thanks again folks.
